We tended to ride in the middle of the pack most of the time. Many people rode faster than we did and/or took fewer breaks, many others rode slower and/or took more breaks. We were on the road between 7 and 8am each morning and usually finished our daily ride early to mid-afternoon.

Our average speed was affected by the terrain (some days hillier than others), the wind (some days had more headwind than others), surface composition (paved paths and roads are faster than gravel and sant trails). Compared to a day tour, we carried a little more gear (tools, tubes, maps, camera, spare film etc.) and food/water.
