GITAP TOUR 2003
the Inaugural Grand Illinois Trail And Parks Tour

Equipment:

Joe, Rob and Bikes

Joe and I use relatively modest equipment. Our hybrid/Fitness type bikes were ideally suited to this tour since it involved road, path and trail riding. Some people rode expensive road bikes with very narrow tires, others road mountain bikes with large tires. The were several tandem bikes, several recumbents and one recumbent tricycle!

Joe rides a 1995 Specialized Crossroads that he has ridden in Biking Across Kansas (BAK), The Other Great Iowa Ride (TOGIR) and now the Grand Illinois Trail and Parks (GITAP) Tour. It is hybrid style bike with a steel frame with 700 X 35 road tires.

My bike was a brand new (2002 model) Trek 7500FX fitness bike, aluminum frame, 700 x 32 road tires. This bike was purchased new in May about six weeks before the GITAP Tour. This purchase was necessary due to a catastrophic frame failure on my trusty old 1989 model, steel framed Trek 830 mountain bike - may it rest in peace.
